The Lac du Bonnet & District Historical Society is excited to announce the publication of the Latvian Heritage Trail brouchure. It will be available for purchase $5.
At one time, the Lac du Bonnet area had the largest Latvian population west of Toronto. Lac du Bonnet’s Latvian heritage is recognizable in multi-generational businesses and homesteads, the names of roads and waterways, and even the prosperous mining industry.
This heritage trail explores sites on both land and water that honour the lasting impact of the area’s Latvian families. These sites are located within the RM and Town of Lac du Bonnet, and the RM of Alexander. They include homesteads, dance halls, cemeteries, schools, roads and more.
Explore the area by boat, canoe or personal watercraft to view sites located on lakes, rivers and creeks. Travel sections on foot by utilizing established hiking trails in spring, summer, and fall. Winter snowmobile routes also pass through sections of this heritage trail.
